Product description
Jump’in Sam Marsh Pelham – Leather Covered (30 mm)
The Jump’in Sam Marsh Pelham is a powerful bit with long shanks, suitable for experienced riders and stronger horses that benefit from extra control and stability.
Sam Marsh Mouthpiece
The Sam Marsh mouthpiece sits flat in the mouth and rotates approximately 90 degrees. This provides:
- Improved fixation in the mouth
- More stability
- Greater comfort for the horse
- A lighter and quieter feel in the hand
Pelham
A Pelham is equipped with:
- Long shanks
- Curb chain
- action with pressure behind the ears
A Pelham with short shanks is also called a baby Pelham; this model has long shanks and is therefore considered a regular Pelham.
- The strength of the pressure is determined by:
- The length of the shanks
- The adjustment of the chin strap or curb chain
Use:
With two reins:
- Upper ring for a soft contact
- Lower ring for leverage
With one rein via a connecting strap (bridge)
A pelham makes it easier to adjust the horse deeply and is often used with stronger or hot horses.
Not suitable for inexperienced riders or inexperienced horses due to the strong pressure.
Straight mouthpiece
- Consists of one piece
- Applies pressure to the tongue, bars, and lips
- The shape and thickness determine the pressure distribution:
- The straighter and thicker the mouthpiece, the more pressure on the tongue
- A straight mouthpiece with a port applies more pressure to the bars and keeps the tongue free
Leather covering
The mouthpiece is covered with leather, which provides:
A softer feel when the leather becomes wet with saliva
Adjustment of the chin strap or curb chain
This bit has a metal core with leather around it and is therefore not flexible.
Maintenance:
Regularly applying butter prevents drying and keeps the leather supple.
